We'll see how this turns out. I think Thor is a pretty weak character (in terms of plot relevant to a central marvel plot).

I also hate characters who say a magic word, have some sort of artifact, that allows them to be replaced by a separate entity ala Billy Batson and Capt Marvel, Darkhawk, Quasar.

If they play him off like they did in Ultimates that should be okay but if they do it like the traditional thor comics I say boring

Thor's actually part of the whole Avengers build up. So, this kind of had to happen to achieve what they're going for. It's coming out 2 months before Captain America, so I assume that's where we'll get our first glimpse at Steve Rogers.
