Afghans would be happy to see anyone not of their tribe to be driven into the sea. It's a heavily clan based region with constant power struggles and dynamics that make a majority national opinion nearly impossible.
Although the dynamic has changed since the invasion and strengthening of the Alliance, it isn't unfair or untrue to say that the taliban was greeted with good will from a lot of Afghans who were tired of the constant warring and corruption of the warlords. I would think it to be very difficult for any western source to gauge the honest opinions of the Afghan people ( if you're an afghan and someone who looks like the people occupying your country asks who you like, what would you say). They will be an influence on the region for some time and will not be doing so strictly by force and secrecy.
By no means is my understanding a lie that I've bought into carelessly with simple flag waving. Also I will say that my opinions and perspectives on this issue have been formed in great part from my discussions with a communications officer who has done two tours in afghanistan and was responsible for setting up teleconferencing between Warlords and military officials. If you have a credible source as to why I should change my opinion, I'd be glad to read it or hear you out.
Anyways.
The worst thing about terry jones and his many flammable qu'rans is that he's gotten people to pay attention to him. Personally I think it'd be hilarious if by chance he was struck by lightning just before setting the fire. The following silence in trailer parks would be deafening.
