Could we get some model numbers or at least brand names of your equipment?

Home theater in a box, yes. It is a Samsung 5 disc DVD player with 5.1 surround, HDMI, component and digital outputs. It may be faulty, but since I moved the digital cable from the TV directly into the Xbox, it works fine. I wonder if the TV may have something wrong with it though.

Again "HDTV" isn't very descriptive. If it's a CRT Projection screen, there could be some interference issues with the center speaker which is undoubtedly on the top of the TV. The audio lag could be the TV, but it's vastly more likely to be the HTIAB

I'll go ahead and assume that's your system. THen I'll google "audio lag" and "video lag" with teh model number.

I'm here to help. Let me help you.

It sounds like bad switching equipment.

HDMI is a digital connection, thus it can be considered noise free, same for TOSlink. The worst that can happen on a digital line is dropped packets....basically you can only lose data, not gain it (thus noise is irrelevant in a digital cable, any injected noise that affects transmission ends in a dropped packet).

Speaker cables are too high of a signal level for injected noise to be a problem, unless this stuff is right across the wall from a substation transformer or something like that (in which case, move...seriously).

So it's the equipment or the way it's connected. That loop between the TV and the reciever is interesting in an odd way. See if that reciever has any issues with outputting a digital signal while recieving one simultaneously. I agree withthe common opinion that the reciever should be checked out.

Perhaps see if you can get a buddy to let you borrow their reciever for a weekend to see what's up.
